The Corporate Wellness Boom: Why Companies Are Investing in Pilates for Employees

In today’s workplace, companies understand that happy, healthy employees are key drivers of success. Corporate wellness programs have evolved from being mere perks to strategic investments that boost productivity and employee retention. Among these initiatives, Pilates has emerged as a powerful tool—backed by science—to enhance employee wellbeing while creating growth opportunities for Pilates studios.
Why Companies Are Investing in Pilates
Wellness Drives Business Success Research shows companies with engaged employees are 21% more profitable and experience 41% less absenteeism (Gallup, 2023). Prioritising wellness is no longer optional, it’s essential for thriving businesses.
Mental Health & Retention With 76% of employees reporting burnout (Deliveroo & YouGov, 2023), stress management has become critical. Pilates offers a proven solution, reducing cortisol—the body’s stress hormone—by 20% per session (Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 2021).
Other benefits include stress reduction, posture & pain relief, mental clarity & team building.
How Companies Are Incorporating Pilates
On-Site Classes Many companies partner with studios to offer Pilates during lunch breaks or after work. For example, Orca Fitness provides reformer Pilates classes that support movement, recovery, and wellbeing directly in the workplace.
Virtual & Hybrid Options Tech giants like Google and Salesforce provide online Pilates classes to support remote and hybrid teams, ensuring wellness is accessible regardless of location.
Subsidised Memberships Some organisations, such as Lloyds Banking Group, subsidise wellness memberships to encourage employee participation and wellbeing.
Industry Insights: The Role of Pilates in Workplace Wellness
We spoke to Matthew Constantinou, founder of Orca Studios – a commercial interior design practice working in wellness spaces and beyond.
"Good design has a real role to play in supporting the way people move and recover, and reformer Pilates is a nice example of that shift in action. At Orca, we’ve been noticing how it’s quietly become part of many people’s working week, reflecting a broader change in attitudes towards movement and wellbeing. There does seem to be a growing appetite for spaces that support this kind of considered, low-impact activity, whether that’s easy access to a studio nearby or wellness amenities built into the workplace itself. It’s not that traditional gym offerings are no longer relevant, but there’s certainly space alongside them for environments that think more holistically about recovery, posture, and everyday wellbeing—something we enjoy exploring in the active and recovery-focused spaces we design.
On a personal level, I occasionally partake in reformer Pilates classes, especially as there is a studio attached to our workspace. Working alongside commercial landlords, we’re seeing growing demand for reformer Pilates studios within their portfolios. These spaces offer far more than a place to work out—they create a genuine sense of community and a considered wellness offering, particularly within the commercial areas of big cities where that kind of space can be harder to come by. It’s a trend we’re watching closely, and one that feels well aligned with the kind of active and recovery-focused environments landlords are increasingly looking to bring into their buildings. When working in commercial fit-out, wellness has evolved hugely from a few plants and a coffee machine. We’re noticing, and actively working with, companies who are beginning to bring reformer Pilates-style studios into their own office spaces, treating movement and recovery as a genuine part of the workplace rather than a token amenity. It reflects a wider shift we’re seeing across the sector—away from wellness as a features checklist, and towards spaces that are properly designed to support how people actually want to work and recover."
